As a National Children’s Alliance-affiliated Children’s Advocacy Center, we coordinate response to child victims of severe abuse in a single, child-friendly location. Our partnerships are based on the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) model, considered the national ‘best practice’ in response to child abuse. We have a signed Inter-Agency Agreement with 4 Caldwell Law Enforcement Agencies, the Department of Social Services, the local mental health entity (Smoky Mountain Center), and the Office of the District Attorney. In addition, we have contracts with medical providers specifically trained in the evaluation of child abuse cases.
The partners included in the Inter-Agency Agreement provide representatives who serve on the Professional Advisory Council and the Multi-Disciplinary Team. The expertise of the individuals that serve on these teams are directly involved in abuse investigation, intervention and victim services. To round out our teams, Caldwell County Schools provides representatives who enhance our knowledge base. With the strong leadership of the Professional Advisory Council, MDT and the staff of Robin’s Nest, we work to provide a haven of care for children ages 0 to 18. Zero tolerance of abuse for the children of Caldwell County is our goal.
Either DSS or law enforcement will assume the lead in investigations. Our MDT meets twice monthly for case review, monitoring, and followup. We created collaborative processes to assure inter-agency partnerships are both continuing and effective in our efforts to serve child victims.
Without these partners, Robin’s Nest cannot accomplish its mission to “pursue justice, provide hope, and promote healing” for victims of sexual and severe physical abuse. We are grateful for the professional expertise each one provides as we collaborate to serve children who have been severely abused in our community.
